What flowers in the Midwest bloom in August (besides Mums)?

I'd like to extend the flowering life of the cottage garden look around my "new" bungalow. What region 4 or 5 zone flowers, preferably native or at least common/heritage, would bloom in August in Wisconsin?

There are several native plants that bloom in the fall. Asters and golden rod look great together. My favorites are obedient plant, turtlehead, great blue lobelia and monkshood. I love them not only for the late season of bloom but because their blooms are unique and so different. Black cohash is nice fall bloomer too. All of these are perenials so you can enjoy them year after year. Good luck and GROW NATIVE!!
Reply:Zinnias, bachelor's buttons, and asters all have long bloom life. They will continue to produce until frost if you deadhead the spent bloom (remove the dead bloom). These are all annuals. Good perennial picks are hollyhocks. For shadier areas, hostas are a good choice since they require minimal care. They're also a perennial (meaning they'll come back next year).
