Which flowers say thank you?

Hi i intend to buy somebody some flowers to say thank you in return for a kind gesture and im wondering what types of flowers would be best for such an occasion, any help much appreciated.

Which flowers say thank you?
daffodils?
Reply:Put a tape player in the flower with the message "thank your".
Reply:Red roses
Reply:calla lillies
Reply:Hi, Three to five roses, any color other than red or white, will convey your message well. No fluffy ribbon or accessories, just roses and foliage. When you present them a simple thank you and I hope to return a favor to you someday will be great. To seem really smart and in the know, tell the recipent to cut the rose stems at an angle and place in a solution of 1/3 Sprite, to 2/3 water. This will help the flowers develop more fully and last longer!

I sent her flowers. What did she mean by "It's a bit wierd. A bit random?"?

I don't think she's really noticed me. I sent the pharmacy girl flowers. She said they were lovely. Short of asking her out, I asked her if she minded me sending her flowers. She looked coyly downwards and said, "I don't know. It's a bit wierd. A bit random." I said I've known her for about 18 months, and I had an opportunity to give someone flowers, and I thought of her. Again she looked shyly to the floow. I don't know what to make of her reaction. Does she think I'm some kind of wierdo crazy stalker, or is she just really shy and unsure?

I sent her flowers. What did she mean by "It's a bit wierd. A bit random?"?
She's probably a bit taken aback because you don't really know her on a personal basis, other than via your prescription pad. That's probably why she's being a bit weird herself. I know if a guy sent me flowers without knowing me like that, I'd be rather hesitant myself. If you like her you most likely should have tried to ask her out, even if it is only for coffee. You could ask her to have coffee with you during her lunch. That way neither of you has to have the stress of having a formal 'date' but get to know each other in a 'safe' and relaxed way and will give you both a legit reason to end the time easily since she'll have to go back to work. Also, she probably had no idea that you like her and so was uncomfortably surprised. Sending flowers with no prior relationship would appear weird and random to her since you said you had an opportunity to send 'someone' flowers and you picked her. I understand what you meant by that, that you like her, but she was probably totally unaware of what you meant when you said that and thought that you were thinking, "Oh, who can I send this freebie of flowers to? Oh, the prescription girl!" So that's why she said it seemed 'random'.

At this point, I don't know what you can do, except maybe tell her you did not mean to freak her out and apologize in a small way (just like, say, "I'm sorry if that overwhelmed you, I did not mean to upset you, I just thought of who I knew that I thought was nice and sweet and you came to mind first." Hopefully, she will be a little more understanding.

I really don't know what else to advise you. Just don't overdo it with the apology. Then you will seem like an overeager stalker!LOL!
Reply:The only way you are going to find out is to ask her. If you've been eying her for 18 months, isn't it time to take a chance and ask her out?
Reply:she doesnt like you like that, and she feels bad.

she likes the flowers, but she feels guilty for taking them because she isnt interested.

im sorry. maybe you can ask her what she means.

if shes not interested then it would be best to move on.

Getting flowers for someone with allergies?

Thinking of getting a small bouquet of flowers or maybe a small potted arrangement for someone I've been seeing the past month or so, but I know they have allergies and being someone who luckily doesn't I don't know if that means flowers are off limits?

Getting flowers for someone with allergies?
They may be. Why don't you try a nice silk arrangement....
Reply:depends on what they are allergic to, if its shellfish then flowers are ok!
Reply:Real flowers would be off-limits. A pretty artificial arrangement with silk flowers would be great and last longer.
Reply:Nothing wrong with fake flowers.
Reply:Get a book or a CD instead.

Wedding flowers?

I'm getting married next year on quite a strict budget and I would like to do my own wedding flowers but I'm not sure how to go about it. My Groom has a dark red waistcoat and my bridesmaids are in purple and lilac. I know I want Carnations in my bouquets and as buttonholes. Can anyone give me advice and know where I can get lessons to help me design and make my own wedding flowers? I live in Carlisle, Cumbria, UK

thanks

Wedding flowers?
Hello , i am a florist and i know just how expensive wedding flowers are , just look through books to get some ideas , i do know hobby craft do ready made button holes and do a great selection of silk flowers , or do a picture search on the internet to get ideas if you lived closer i would teach you , maybe the local library has books to show you or find your local flower arranging club , or go to your local church and ask then who does there flowers it usually tends to be the head of the flower arranging club , hope you manage to find some help , and any questions u have please just contact me .
Reply:For my sisters wedding, we did our own bouquets, including here and all of the boutineers. It was EASY and a lot of FUN! We had all the brides maids over the night before the wedding and had a movie on and made all of our own bouquets. It made them more special.

the biggest trick is get PLENTY of floral tape and wires and DONT forget the pins. Look at some magazines, and do some test runs on how they do it. And DEFINITELY dont forget to cut the flowers under water. Make sure the stems are underwater.. they cut easier and it prolongs the life. Clean out the fridge and store them in there over night.

We ordered all the flowers online, and Im trying to remember where. Im sure you can find somewhere a lot closer. But it was definitely cheaper and mroe personal. Good Luck!
Reply:Go with the silk flowers --u can keep them forever... get flowers u like in the colors u are using and arrange them in a bouquet , carnations, roses, wrap them together w/green tape found in arts/crafts stores near flower section... and put them in the carrier of your choice you can use glue w/glue gun to hold em in..or to glue the flowers, baby's breath, etc wherever u deem fit... practice with a few first before making your wedding flowers... not so hard, we did it too..
Reply:that's great
Reply:do silk...i did then, had it framed after...my kids love it!
Reply:You can get flowers dyed to any color you want. So you can easily get carnations in reds purples and white. But if you are on a low budget I would definately go for silk flowers. As nice as real flowers are they will die far too easily and that would be my major fear when doing my own flowers. If you use fake ones you can keep them for years to come!!
Reply:My sister spent hundreds on Carnations/button holes, her bouquet and the flower girls. Looked nice but price was stupid. The night before her wedding one of the bridesmaids realised that no flowers had been ordered for them. We nipped to the local florist and bought a bunch of purple flowers, long stemmed. £2,50, wrapped them up with a purple ribbon and they looked beautiful.

Try flower arranging at local night school. Paper flowers are very nice too. Be careful of artificial flowers, they can look very fake.

Good luck and enjoy, the wedding is your day so get a great maid/matron of honour and best man who can keep all the stress away.
Reply:best of luck in your wedding!
Reply:Use silk flowers and you can usually get lessons %26amp; advice at craft stores. The lessons are worth it and they usually dont'l cost that much. Good Luck!!!
Reply:Hey dont worry I am here to help you I am getting married too so I will help you all that I can ok go to theknot.com and they will give you a budget that you can go on. email me @ ethorntonbaby@yahoo.com so that we can talk
Reply:If you order a bouquet and you don't tell it's for a wedding!!! you will get it for half the price!!!
Reply:Dark red, purple %26amp; lilac????! Ewww!
Reply:Try doityourself.com or even marthastewart.com. I had white Daisey's in my bouquet. I'm not sure how much it costs, but i don't think they were that pricey. Good luck!
Reply:I like any flowers but white lily's or white roses they are my favorite
Reply:When i got married 2yrs ago at gretna green i went into the flower shop and asked for a simple boquet with my chosen colors of my dress (ivory and burgendy) I dont like real flowers as they dont last and they fall apart. if you go into gretna green, thrers a lovely flower shop on the street neat the hairderssers and they do v.cheap boquets. Mine was nothing too flashy but very nice. is it just the cost that is why you want to make your own? mine costed £40.00 for plastic ones and it was worth it. if thats still quite deer you wont actually be able to make your own for less as flowers are deer. a single rose from a flower shop is £2.00. just stick with simple, plastic and cheap. at least plastic you can keep and it'll remind you of a lovely day.

Good luck getting married!!
Reply:roses and jasmines!
Reply:Go to Afloral.com- they have beautiful silk flowers and tips on making bouquets and stuff. Also, marthastewart.com has tons of wedding and flower tips on their site. Good luck on your marriage!
Reply:Trust me its not worth the hassle. Cut your budget in other places.

Which flowers do rabbits not like to eat?

Our cemetary has lots of little rabbits that love to eat the flower heads, is there any flowers I can leave that will not be eaten by the bunnies?

Which flowers do rabbits not like to eat?
Marigolds, or buy some silk flowers and arrange them with the tallest one in the centre and smaller ones on the sides, with some fern and if you have a wire that goes over the tombstone which can easily be made, put some hanging ivy in it.

If you make the wire which goes over the top of the tombstone something like a U upside down on both ends about 6 inches in depth held together by 2 horizontal wires you could use any plants you want to. Make sure when you make the hanger you use wire that is secure enough or get someone to weld one for you. The caretaker will leave the flowers generally until you take them as they wont be in his way when cleaning the cemetery.
Reply:silk or plastic flowers. the cemetary here in town forbids natural flowers, only artifcial ones are allowed.
Reply:Petunias
Reply:Rabbits eat all flowers, including marigolds. I have had great luck (five years now) w/raised beds. I don't know if they havn't found them yet but I have yet to loose a plant in my raised bed.

You can purchase "Big Cat" (lion and tiger) manure from the garden centers. This practice was discovered in China and is just now catching on in the states. They have learned that spreading this "dung" around your property scares off Rabbits, Raccoons, Groundhogs, and even Deer.
Reply:they wont eat weeds...at least if the weeds are unattractive
Reply:Artificial!!!!!!!!!!

Wedding flowers real or silk????

i get married in a few weeks but am still having a flowers problem do i get real or silk i will be going away stright after for 3 weeks so will have to leave flowers behind also can you tell the diffarence between real and silk

Wedding flowers real or silk????
I like real better, and you get the lovely scent from them.
Reply:real nice silks are beautiful, not to mention cheaper. then, you can have a keepsake, like a table topper, or your bouquet. my mom still has hers from 25 years ago!
Reply:I'm using silk. They're beautiful. I got them on usiflorals. So realistic looking. A friend of mine actually asked if they were real. Good luck in deciding
Reply:Either is totally fine! However, I just think for a wedding it is truly special to have lots of fresh flowers!
Reply:i had real and gave them to my mum afterwards
Reply:They really should be real to look perfect but there are some pretty beautifully done silk ones now.
Reply:I know most people say to use real flowers...but you can use silk flowers (looks just as good and THEY WON'T WILT!!) and make the bouquets yourself (girls' night with your mom, mother-in-law-2-be, maid/matron of honor, and bridesmaids. Your mom and MIL-2-B can help you make your bouquet and everyone else can make their bouquet. Get flowers from michael's or any arts and crafts store. It takes a little bit of time, but its really not difficult at all. And the best part is that your bouquet will still be as fresh looking 50 years from now as it will be on your wedding day.

To dress things up just a little bit, you can get little pearls made to go in bouquets to add a touch of elegance to YOUR bouquet. You can get different colored ribbon (sheer with color about 1/2 in wide) to match the different colors in the bridesmaids bouquets and they can all pick out a color that they particularly like. And then add some sheer white ribbon to your bouquet. I'm telling you...this is incredibly simple to do.

I had a very simple wedding...and used daisies. I had white, soft yellow, and soft green in my bouquet (which matched my 2 attendants dresses - the green and yellow - perfectly along with my white dress). They had different colors of daisies along with a few other kinds of flowers with yellow ribbon (yellow dress) and green ribbon (green dress). And the ribbon matched perfectly as well.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN!!
Reply:Avis B - you are a complete snob!

How dare you!

I had silk flowers and was every bit a real bride as anybody else!!
Reply:real much better good luck girl!!
Reply:Definitely, definitely, definitely real. I don't know where you are in the world but there are companies who will press your bouquet and after a few months you can have the preserved bouquet framed in a picture. See an example of a company who'll do this.

http://www.wedding-service.co.uk/bouquet...

This is what maids of honour are for - give her your bouquet just as you leave and she can sort it out!
Reply:mine were silk because my mum was going to take my bouquet abroad to place on my grandfathers grave so and if it were real flowers they would have died they were fab and no you could not tell the bridesmaids were the same and they still have them still looking great have a great day what ever you choose
Reply:REAL - they still last forever in your pictures!
Reply:Here is a site that I recomend. I have seen a lot of this woman's work with silks, and you can not tell that they are silk.

http://jeaniesfloral.com/
Reply:get real ones!! they are so much better. even if you're leaving right afterwards, have family and friends take them with them when they leave.
Reply:Real, and yes, unless they are really expensive silk flowers, you can tell the difference. My biggest reason for using real is you can throw them away when done - they're biodegradable. If you get fake flowers, what do you do them after the wedding?

Also, if you aren't near a wholesale flower mart, there are tons of online wholesale flower companies that will ship you flowers in a hurry. Real flowers aren't that expensive if you get ones that are in season.
Reply:I do prefer real flowers, they look so much more attractive.
Reply:Real flowers are nice, silk flowers can be nice too. Just make sure you go to a store that specialize in silk flowers. Some stores have cheap silk flowers others have really nice flowers. Good Luck.
Reply:I think real are better, Some silk flowers look cheap. Good luck with the wedding!
Reply:Real silk are sooooooo tacky. If you are going away after give them to a nursing home or to some elderly neighbours.
Reply:real
Reply:I say go for the real thing. Not only do they look nicer but they smell so great too. The flowers are something that you're not really suppose to get too attached to, they're really on loan to you for the duration of your wedding.

I agree with other people here who say to pass them on to someone else to enjoy after the big day. You might want to pull a couple flowers out of your bouquet to dry them and press them into your wedding album.
Reply:I like real flowers a lot better. When you walk down the aisle you want to feel as confident as you can be because it is your special day. I suggest you to get real flowers. So what if you leave the flowers behind? Even if you won't be leaving straight after the wedding what are you going to do with the flowers? They will die sooner or later anyway. It is not about what are you going to do AFTER the wedding, it is about the actual wedding.
Reply:I am having slik. They can look as real as the real thing. Plus you dont have to pay to have them dried ( Ladies of you had them dried sorry) Do you know how they dry them? Kitty litter yes the same thing but in dust form they set you flowers in kitty litter. Yuck!! Silk you can dust off!! I also think it is the easy way to go and most Florist can you use slik and perfer it!! YOu also dont have to worry about them in any kind of weather. Hope it helped Best wishes!!
Reply:Silks have come a long way in the last several years. Some silks are quite difficult to differentiate from real flowers - you have to touch them to be sure. It all comes down to how much you want to budget for flowers. In some cases, high quality silks can be more costly than real flowers. Good luck flower shopping!
Reply:Real. The flowers aren't going to last forever whether you are leaving for a long time or not anyway. Real is so much better.
Reply:really always look great but the two wedding i was in it turned into a BIG problem in both the day of the wedding. they my (Aunt) she arranges flowers and she did them the night before and you put them in the fridge to keep them fresh and the first time they froze and the second time they got really withered and they looked perfect the day before. So if you can find great looking silk flowers i would go with that so its one less thing to think about going wrong. good luck and congrats on the wedding
Reply:it is all up to you, i say go with silk, you can not tell the difference also in pictures they look better, not wilting and stuff like that. also the petals are much easier to handle, and to clean up like for the little flower girl who has to toss them down the isle. and unless you have someone to care for them for the few weeks you will be gone then there is no point to pay for the flowers that will be almost dead by the time you come back to them anyways, also your bouquet should be silk to keep it forever and cherish it always
Reply:Nobody thinks silk and real are the same - it just isn't possible unless the entire wedding party and all the guests are stone cold drunk. Carrying a clutch of fake flowers - however pretty - just doesn't cut it on such a special occasion.

If what you want to do is preserve the fresh bouquet, have a professional do it or use the drying crystals yourself from the craft store.
Reply:real
Reply:Unless it's a high grade silk flower you'll likely be disappointed in the bouquet overall and how it looks and how it photographs. If you are leaving immediately afterwards give the bouquet to the bridesmaid and have it preserved

http://www.hellerandreid.com/

http://www.bouquetfreezedry.com/index.ht...

http://www.florage.com/bridal_bouquet_pr...

You need to set that up IMMEDIATELY though.
Reply:Real Brides only carry REAL flowers.

There is no place for fake or silk or faux anything at a wedding.

And yes, silk flowers look like fake flowers.

You will always regret carrying silk flowers "down the aisle" but you will never regret carrying fresh flowers down the aisle.

If possible, make arrangements to have your bridal bouquet "preserved" by your florist or check out one of the wedding flower preservation companies on line. You need to make those arrangements NOW so your flowers can be preserved in a "fresh" condition. One of your friends can take the bouquet to the florist after the ceremony (within a day or two).

Wedding flowers, colors are chocolate & baby blue, what flowers would look best?

I need suggestions for the bridesmaids flowers and the decorations. The dresses will be chocolate and may have a blue sash. Any suggestions would be great!

Wedding flowers, colors are chocolate %26amp; baby blue, what flowers would look best?
Why not mix in gold as well and some white? Brown and blue go with gold nicely. As for flowers how about blue and white flowers with greenery?

Reply:Don't really know my flowers. But find a color close to what you want. For the chocolate part you could get small brown cattails put in the bouquets. They accent really nice. I think they have like 2 or 3 inch ones.

Really nice colors to put together.

Good luck with the wedding.
Reply:if you want to stick with those colors exactly, I would reccomend getting the powder blue irises or hydrangeas and chocholate cosmos, you could maybe mix in some ivory or white roses and greenery, that would be really pretty!
Reply:Blue hydrangeas! They look so pretty! You can mix them with other types and colors of flowers or just use them by themselves and they look great.
Reply:My wedding was chocolate colors, so I had all the flowers either white, off-white or a very very soft peach color. We went with roses for everyone. Having the white flowers looked good against the darker colors of the suits and dresses.

What flowers would go with calla lilies?

I would like calla lilies for my wedding but what other flowers go good with them? My colors are peach and lavendar. i need centerpieces and flowers for the people in the wedding.

What flowers would go with calla lilies?
Calla lilies are very versatile and can go with a variety of flowers. Since it's such a "long" petaled flower, I think it's a nice contrast to couple them with more "rounded" flowers. I think roses and hydrageas can give you a lot of versatility as far as color choices. But I also think calla lilies are so elegant that just a bunch of them together is very striking.
Reply:I went to 1800flowers.com and they had roses with them they were to die for. they were gorgous.. i love calli lillies. look at other websites and see what other people do with them.
Reply:Roses go extremely well with calla lillies. You could put some peach colored roses with white calla lillies. Tulips also go really well with calla lillies. I had all three in my bouquet. I also had lizianthis, which comes in a variety of colors, and you may be able to get the colors you are looking for. Check with your florist, they will be able to help direct you on the best flowers, however, ultimately the decision is yours. Congrats!
Reply:Gerbera daisies
Reply:I found a company that has pictures of bouquets with calla lilies and lists the names of the flowers in the bouquet with them. There are two of them in your colors that are absolutely breathtaking!

You can print out a picture off the site and the names of the flowers, then coordinate your ceremony/reception/wedding party flowers to look similar.

Great color choices...I absolutely love them!
Reply:The following link is to a color wheel. A color wheel shows an array of colors. The reason its a wheel is becuase the color directly opposing it is the complimentary color. According the color wheel, blues compliments peach/oranges and greens and blue-greens compliment lavender. Perhaps you want to go with some flowers in these families in order to not overwhelm your wedding with peach and lavender. The white calla will look beautiful with green orchids (which I am using in my own wedding), violets, hydrangeas, and irises.

http://www.prosperity.com/myers/artlesso...
Reply:Compliment them with Baby's Breath
Reply:tulips
Reply:I'm having calla lilies for my wedding too I picked tulips %26amp; roses to go with the calla's

as for centerpieces I saw on the comp a nice calla gel candle Look on ebay for calla lily items you might find something. Good luck
Reply:Easter Lillies....
Reply:My colors were orange and lavender. I had the bronx calla lillies surrounded by all shades of purple flowers as fillers and I also included orchids the red and yellow ones; which really accented the orange color of the calla lillies. But if your calla lillies are going to be white, I would receommend pulling the peach and lavender flowers also into your bouquet. When you visit your Florist she will show you all types of fillers and the colors available. Warning: Do not let your Florist take over, They will try and put their own spin, you have to be firm on your colors.
Reply:they should stand alone you have the best already trust me and my wife
Reply:I am using the flowers: calla lilies, star gazers and orchids.
Reply:callas are usually nicest when they are by themselves, you could ask the florist to add some nice green to them, other flowers would usually take away from the callas.

If you arent already aware, callas tend to be quite expensive, this is mostly dependent on where you live, the season, the size of the flower itself and where it was grown.

you can bring in the colours of your wedding in the call itself, they come in a wide variety of colours. You can also request a specific colour for the ribbon going around the stems.

Do you buy flowers for a funeral?

one of my friends Matt died in a car crash last week and his funeral is on friday iv asked a friend for the number of the place doing the flowers but he never got back to me and i dont want to ask matts mum as shes got lots more on her mind, so now the funerals in 2 days and i dont know what to do, if i buy a bunch of flowers what ones should i get or should i just not take anything? i dont want to turn up trying to find somwhere to put the flowers? but dnt want to turn up with nothing and be insulting, i have been fortunate enough never to have had to gone to any other funerals so am unsure what to do?

Thanks

Do you buy flowers for a funeral?
I am so sorry for the loss of your friend Matt. I totally agree with BetsyB on this. She has some very good advise. I have just buried my second husband and one of the nicest things (concerning flowers) that anyone did for me was to plant a tree in his honor. Maybe you could plant a tree at his mom's house for her in Matt's honor. Just be there for each other and talk about the good times you had with your friend. It will be good for you and Matt's mom will be glad you were a good friend. Bless you, dear one.
Reply:For funerals, there is not "A florist" that does the flowers. Everyone just calls the florist they want. Sometimes there can be 3-5 different florist represented. Just call a florist in the area and don't bother anyone with the specifics.
Reply:dont worry about flowers. your presence is enough.
Reply:TELL A FLORIST THE SITUTATION THEY WILL KNOW ....FLOWERS CAN BE A BLESSING.
Reply:Everytime I've ever ordered flowers for a funeral, I just go to a florist, tell them how much I want to spend %26amp; where to take them. They will do the rest. They will let you sign a card or they will sign your name for you. It's pretty simple. If the family of the deceased has requested that donations be made to a cause in lieu of flowers, then do that. If that is what they wish, then find out what "cause", contact them (the organization) and give them whatever donation you wish %26amp; request that they let the family know that you did this in lieu of flowers.

Sorry about your friend...hang in there.
Reply:My funeral director has been instructed to put in my death notice that in lieu of flowers, please donate to my favorite animal charity.
Reply:If you have the money, you could call a florist and have them deliver some flowers, if not send a note to the family recalling some good times you shared with Matt.
Reply:When you find out where the funeral is, as the funeral home where the nearest florist is. The florist usually has arrangements already made. They can send something over immediately. A lot of people contact the funeral home to find a florist. When the florist delivers, the funeral director will find a place to put them. When my Grandfather died, the wake was for 2 days. Flowers kept coming and coming in from the local florist. It was quite nice.
Reply:I don't buy flowers because with that money for something that dies, I can make a lasting gift of a donation. Buy a sympathy card. Write a note to his parents on the white left hand side about the best things you liked doing with Matt and you together. Then write a check, or go to Western Union or a bank or Amscott or your parents and have a check for $25 written. If the obit didn't say, " Donations to Name Charity may be made in his name, or Donations to a charity of one's choice may be made in Matt's name, then tell them that you are making this donation in Matt's name to .....the Athletic/Art/Whatever Department at your school. You get the idea? Sorry for your loss. Makes better drivers of young people, doesn't it? Many of us have been through it.
Reply:I agree about your presence being enough. I never send flowers anymore. They don't last, and most people don't know what to do with all that they get. Now, I send a nice green plant---not a flowering one, because they don't last either.

Or I give money in a card. But best of all would be a letter to his mom. And you can send that even after the funeral. When my son died, the mom of one of his friends wrote me the nicest letter telling me of the times my son was at her house and what she remembered of him. And a friend of his handed me a letter he had written about the fun times they had together. I remember those things more than who gave what flowers.

I'm sorry for your loss of a friend.
Reply:Call the funeral home sometimes they want you to make a donation to a organization or church. The funeral home should know this information.
Reply:the way it seems to be done, is you find out the funeral home/church where ever funeral/family night is going to be held send flowers. they are usually all in one big room with the casket. then when they take the body to the graveyard they usually have a flower car that takes all the flowers the family bought or have been sent by other. that is how it happen every time i have been to a funeral.
Reply:If this was a good friend, then you should be focusing on your own mourning and not fussing over etiquette. There is plenty of time to express your condolences in flowers or some other format later: right now, your simple presence at the funeral will be the most healing thing for you and for his family.

If you really feel the need to provide flowers, contact a florist yourself and have them deliver the package. Do not show up at the funeral home or church with a bouquet in hand.

I think, though, that Matt's family will have recieved enough flowers. Prepare a letter to him saying your goodbyes and how much you loved him and place it in his casket (if you can); otherwise, give it to his mother or another relative to be buried with him or to be read by his parents at a later date. This will be a gift to him, to his family, and to yourself.
Reply:Of course, it's a very caring gesture to bring flowers as it represents symbolically, the vibrant life of the deceased and it comforts the family to see visible signs of sympathy. You would place your flowers near the casket or around the alter of the church. Even a simple wildflower bouquet in a plain vase is acceptable. It depends on what you can afford, but anything is better than nothing!
Reply:You have a few options.

1. Don't send anything. Just show up. Matt's mum will be very happy to see you.

2. Send flowers to the funeral home with a note. You can do this through a florist. You don't need to bring them with you. In fact, it is probably better that the florist deliver them. The funeral director knows what to do with the flowers once they arrive.

3. You can send a card to Matt's mum with a check for a sum you think is appropriate. She can use the check for whatever she wants. I did this many years ago when an uncle passed away. My aunt used the money to put it towards his headstone.

4. You can send a check with a sum you can afford to one of many charities in Matt's name. The charity will ask you for Matt's mum's address. She will receive notification that you donated money in Matt's name.

I hope these suggestions help you.

I am very sorry for your loss.
Reply:♥ ♥ sorry about your friend... you can just call any florist they will help you decide what to send and they will send it to the mortuary for you... so dont worry... remember too that they will probably get flowers so maybe instead go to a nursery or store and buy a nice small house plant and include a gift of money in a nice card... there are alot of expenses in a funeral and most people are not prepared for that...♥ ♥

Forsythia bushes; evening primrose; jerusalem artichoke; sneezeweed; missouri primrose; goldenrod (doesnt look gold to me) The most beautiful, for me, is the Missouri Primrose. It only opens at night and it is glorious when it opens. If you miss it at night, the show is over because by morning the bloom is gone.

I'm having flowers delivered to my gf, a combo of pink stargazer Lily's and pink roses, is this a good combo?

Im sending 6 pink roses with 2-3 stargazer lily's with baby's breath intertwined, does this sound like a good combination of flowers to brighten someone's day? Just curious to know what anyone thinks that knows meaning behind flowers or types of flowers and even the color chosen for it. Its for an apology of sorts but she loves these types of lily's and roses and pink is her color so I thought that would be neat for her to have.

Sounds good to me, and I don't know a thing about flowers :)

Personally, the little card that comes with the flowers.. is my favorite part.
Reply:women always love flowers, no matter what.
Reply:very nice choice.

prepare yourself for some kisses :)
Reply:Pink roses mean "infatuation".. Red roses are "love" roses... But any arrangement with lilies is going to be breathtaking. It sounds really, really nice...

Pressed flowers, how do I get started and do a nice job ?

I am known as the Flower Lady for the past 12 years in the SE area of our town, I sell flowers for .10 each on a card table, self pay in a jar :) Now I would like to learn how to press them and make keepsakes for my family members, but I'd like to hear from those who learned the hard way, not from sites you have cut and pasted please. Experience usually speaks loudest

Pressed flowers, how do I get started and do a nice job ?
Have you seen the book:

Pressed Flowers

by Pamela Le Bailly

Amazon.com has it for about $11. Might be a good starting point to learn how and then what you can do with the flowers.

I'm assuming you have a ready source for flowers, can make multiple presses (cheap and easy to make, it's the blotter paper that adds up). When I was mounting it was on herbarium quality paper and with special herbarium glues, I'd be interesting to see what this author uses.

I've always liked the pressed flowers in stain glass, but the flowers fade in sunlight, so self defeating.
Reply:So I had a friend make this really cool thing for me. It was two layers of wood, with 4 screws (one on each corner) that you could tighten and loosen. (It's really hard to explain, but there are many ways you can do it.) Then I put a whole lot of newspaper in between the two wood layers. Then you just put the flowers in the layers of paper, with 10 or 20 layers of paper in between them. I usually would let them press for about a week.

Make sure not to use too big of flowers that are too wet. They soak through a lot of paper and it gets a little messy.

Hopefully that helps some :)
Reply:old phone books work well since you don't care if the flower bleeds onto the page-don't put between plastic-newspaper is ok

What flowers would youl plant in a concrete container 18 in. X 15ft Partial shade...?

I have a concrete container in which I want to plant flowers or any other plants. It is beside the entry to the church. It is in partial shade. The plant s should be 8-14 ins high. The fllowers should be flowering a ll season. I did plant impatients but I want to try something different.

What flowers would youl plant in a concrete container 18 in. X 15ft Partial shade...?
Sweet Alyssum makes a sweet smelling border. Snapdragons, Coleus, Cyclamen, Lobelia is a beauty, Wax Begonia, Highbred Impatiens. Petunias, Tuberous Begonia, another beauty, Verbena. You have a nice large container, so just about anything will work, as most plants can tolerate partial shade.
Reply:Mums %26amp; Hostas.

In a planter I'd just go with the seasonal plants at the home center. Maybe add a light sprinkeling of feterlizer and mix the soil well if it has been previously used.
Reply:Annuals for Shade or Part Shade

Most annuals need at least 6 hours of sun to flower well, although many will tolerate shade in the afternoon, if they have had a full morning of sun. These annuals will bloom with less sun, although all will need some sun for flowering. Those marked with a * will tolerate the most shade.

Ageratum

Begonia (Begonia species)

Caladium (Caladium species)*

Coleus (Solenostemon scutteleriodes)

Forget-me-not (Myosotis sylvatica)

Impatiens (Impatiens species)*

Edging Lobelia (Lobelia erinus)

Woodland Tobacco (Nicotiana sylvestris)

What flowers are nice?

my bf been asking me what flowers i like (not the cut type more the potted plant ones) for my room but i have no clue what types of flowers are easy to care for need limited sun light (im a goth and my room never sees sunlight) and can handle alot of abuse (my bro likes to destory my stuff like my catcus that he turned in to a pen holder)

What flowers are nice?
Snake plants (or mother-in-law tongue as it is sometimes called) are very easy, low light, very little water...hard to kill. They are spiky looking with a very thick leaf. Your brother would have to work real hard at damaging it.
Reply:I agree with the first answer....try a philodendron because it's a house plant that is hard to kill.
Reply:you might try a nice, silk arrangment. no water or light required.
Reply:Flowers will not grow in your room after the initial growth. They need sunlight. Stick to a nice plant the requires little or no sun.

Colorado Flowers?

I need purple flowers within the vicinity of Colorado Springs, during the Fall. Can anyone give me some details about specific purple flowers in bloom this month? If you can name a couple within the foothills I can do the work to find them! Thanks!

Colorado Flowers?
Ok-Rev. This is the best possible plants that I can find that may help you.

Salvia'Indigo Spires' purple flowers. However states in zones 7-9. The Sunset Garden books Classify Colorado Springs as zone1-A. Then the other possible plant that may help is Hyssopus. officinalis. Dwarf.semi-evergreen,aromatic shrub with erect shoots and linear to narrowly lance-shaped,or oblong,mid-green leaves,to 2in (5cm) long. Slender spikes or whorled,funnel-shaped,2-lipped,dark blue flowers,1/2 (1.5cm) long, are produced from midsummer to early autumn. 24 in(60cm),- 3ft.(1m) Zones6-9. This is the best I can do with what I have to check for cross referance matrials Books. Good Luck Hope this will help. My-Referance books [A to Z Encyclopedia of Garden Plants First American Edition 1997:] Then the other Referance material I checked was Better Homes %26amp; Gardens step-by-step Annuals, then also the Western Garden Book Sunset Revised and Updated Edition 2001 .

Are flowers a sign that a guy has cheated?

I haven't spoken or seen my boyfriend in 5 months. We've been together for over a year. He doesn't call me, let me know where he is, or send me letters. I know he's going through a lot of depression, but he has a right to express his feelings to me. One day he decides to send me flowers and he's never done that before. Should I be worried that these flowers are a gift of guilt or a gift of love?

Are flowers a sign that a guy has cheated?
If he hasn't seen you in awhile I would think they were to remind you that he loves you and misses you!! Don't worry if he was cheating he probably wouldn't send you anything at all!
Reply:Either way, he is reaching out to you. After five months of no communication, you are still calling him your boyfriend, so it would seem that you also have feelings for him and have been incredibly patient. Assume the best - you can't go wrong with that - and if it is something else, you will eventually know. It's not worth getting upset over, when it may be a way to get back what you had.
Reply:ask him??? maybe he's changing and realizes that you are worth something...meh i dunno..men are complicated. :/
Reply:If they were, guys wouldn't send flowers EVER.

He probably just wanted to surprise you with something nice because you haven't spoken in a while. And you think he's cheating?

Jeez.
Reply:Or that he stole them. Would NO FLOWERS have been better? Why do girls try to complicate even the slightest thing a guy does. Either accept the darn flowers or throw them in the trash. Life's to short for mind games.
Reply:sure, always worry about everything. get worried, not happy ... way to go!
Reply:it could be ask him!
Reply:You haven't had contact with him for FIVE MONTHS? That might have been his way of breaking up with you, and now he wants to get back together... Is he a passive, white-lie kind of person, or is he brutally honest?
Reply:call him ask him why he gave u flowers

Fake flowers..okay?

Here's the deal flowers are expensive and die in a few days so I don't see the point in spending hundreds of dollars on real ones. I got real flowers for the alter and my bouquet but I plan to get fake ones for the wedding party. What do you guys think?

Fake flowers..okay?
Perfect. It's your wedding, if your happy with them, why care what the others think.

After its done and over with the only thing you will have is the memory and pictures.

In pictures no one will know the difference.

Congratulation an your pending marriage.
Reply:I think its ok.... its your wedding and you can use the money to buy for other things that you really want... Congratulations!
Reply:I personally don't like the idea of fake flowers. I mean I don't mean to be rude, but they never look as nice as fresh flowers. For my girls I am trying to get their bouquets to smell great too! You can't do that with fake!
Reply:If you get fake flowers that look nice, no one will know the difference. My sister had all fake at her wedding, and no one had a clue!
Reply:ask your love 1 if its ok , for me as long as ur love is not fake
Reply:I think thats fine, i mean no one will notice if you get them looking really close as if they were real, besides it will only go to waste at the end of the night, this way they will have them forever as a keep sake and for memories. I say go for it, it will be fine.
Reply:it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience. splurging is allowed, i think. but then as long as the ones in your hands are real, i don't see any problem with using fakes for other decorations. besides, you can use the budget for your honeymoon! :)
Reply:i think thats ok! expecially cause weddings are dramatically exspensive, and cost about a fortune! as long as bride, and bridesmaids have real flowers then i dont think any other flowers should really matter!
Reply:It's perfectly fine to have fake flowers. These days fake flowers can look so real nobody can tell. If you aren't sure if it's what you really want to do... you can do what I did for my first wedding - I had each bridesmaid carry one long stem rose, and the maid-of-honor carried two. It really was pretty. The florist tied a really bow on the stem, so it wasn't just plain. You don't have to do roses, there are other flowers with firm stems you could use, if you want to go the real flower route, but don't want to spend a lot of money. Congrats and good luck!
Reply:For a wedding, dont use fake. A marriage is a once in a lifetime happening. Why use fake? Dont safe cost on a wedding. Its ruin it.
Reply:Well, there's nothing wrong with fake flowers, but either all the bouquets are fake, or all are real. They have to match. Altar flowers can be different.
Reply:That's definitely fine. Good quality ones are just as nice. In fact, my friend got a lot of colorful scrapbook paper and made a whole bunch of really nice paper roses for her wedding reception.
Reply:Of course. Most of the people I know use fake flowers instead of real ones. Especially for the bouquet. So they can keep it.
Reply:Fake for the wedding party? EL CHEAPO!
Reply:My daughter is in the ballon bussiness and she decorates at alot of weddings with ballons. They are placed on the brides table , the gift table and other tables. Don't suggest you use them for your bouquet as you would look funny walking down the aisle with them and saying your vows holding them. LOL She makes some really pretty ballon bouquets and they are cheaper than flowers. check in your town for ballon companies that do this. Good Luck to you.
Reply:A lot of people are going with nice-looking fake flowers for weddings.

They last longer, logically, which means you won't have those disgusting wilting flowers halfway through the party, which is my worst nightmare for my wedding one day.

It is cheaper, and wiser, just as long as the flowers look good.
Reply:You can definitely use fake flowers! It will look fine, and you save plenty of money. Anyway, if you're really worried about that, I'm sure the rest of your party will be so great, no one will notice! Good luck!
Reply:they are perfectly fine, its your day. I am on a budget and I am using silk flowers.
Reply:A lot of people do that. This one lady for her wedding she made paper flowers and they looked awesome. Here is a pic.

http://weddings.theknot.com/odb/themes/r...
Reply:No, all of the bouquets should be real. You can use fakes as table decorations and church decorations, but the flowers the bride and her attendants carry should be real.
Reply:No it is not ok. If you want a wedding you have to spend some money. You need real flowers on the tables and you need to hold real flowers because fake ones will look horrible and cheap in your wedding pictures.
Reply:i gruss you know where to place those fake flower at just bend down are you nut the big day in your life you want to do what nice joke get real
Reply:Good idea..
Reply:Not OK, my man. Seriously, go for the real thing. People read into your actions and this will send an unflattering message about you - that you cheap out on the little things when the little things are important. I know it looks like a waste of money but buying real ssays to the party that you care, you are giving, that little things are important, and you'll do anything to make a special day perfect. THAT is the message you want to send!!
Reply:AS LONG AS THE ''FAKE'' FLOWERS DONT LOOK LIKE THEY WERE PURCHASED AT THE LOCAL ''DOLLAR'' STORE, THEN HEY, GO W/ IT!! I AGREE ''REAL FLOWERS'' ARE EXTREMELY OVERPRICED (ESPECIALLY SINCE THEY DIE SHORTLY AFTERWARD) SO IF U CAN FIND PRETTY SILK ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS TO GO W/ UR WEDDING DECOR THEN GET THEM!!
Reply:All of my married friends have got the wedding party fake flowers so that they could keep them as a momento. They are wonderfully real looking, if you go to the right place. Check out the newspaper, around here it's usually people that work out of their homes that make them specifically for special occasions.

They are not cheesy or cheap. It's your wedding, do what you want, and more importantly, can afford!
Reply:well i dont know if you ever heard of the shop happily ever after weddings. well i am a wedding designer. and quite frankily i think that fake flowers are not ok. well first of all its you're big day. so splurge for it. Not all flowers are hundreds of dollars. I'm sure if you e-mail me i can find cheaper flowers. that are affordable and real. you can save money other ways to like consider a city park or a garden for you're cerimoney they are usually more inexpensive and very pretty. Chose plated meals over a buffet. Suprisingly, a plated meal is usually less expensive because the food costs are less for the caterer. Hope this helps =). if you need any help on finding anything you can email me at weddingsandesign@aol.com
Reply:Absolutely. Fake flowers look so real these days. I have been to weddings with fake flowers and they are beautiful.
Reply:what u are really looking for is a nice flower that is not real. try silks. check them out in your area. they are the latest thing and they are just as beautiful as the real ones for a portion of the costs.
Reply:It's your wedding, so it only matters what you think. I think that would be fine. Real flowers are nicer, but the most important part is the bouquet and alter... so as long as those ones are real, I don't see a problem.
Reply:Fake flowers can look just like real ones if you shop around. At the end of the day its your wedding.Do what makes you happy.Good luck for the big day.........

Who should wear flowers at the wedding? Just the wedding party or all the brothers and sisters wear them?

Who should wear flowers at the wedding? Just the wedding party or all the brothers and sisters wear them? my brothers fiances mom thinks all the brothers and sisters should have flowers to distinguish them from others. We are already wearing the wedding colors the brothers one color the sisters the other? Are flowers proper for all immediate family????

Who should wear flowers at the wedding? Just the wedding party or all the brothers and sisters wear them?
It is really up to the couple! However, most couples only have the mother and father of the bride and groom with flowers (step parents included in this) and grandparents of both the bride and groom! Anyone who is reading, singing, ushering, passing out programs, guest book, etc. And of course anyone in the actual bridal party.

Anyone else is really extra, and mainly done to make people feel important or a part of the event.

Good luck and congrats!
Reply:We are doing the bridal party 3

Parents 8

Grandparents 5

god parents 2

Thats a lot of flowers I had to make. Brothers and sisters are not getting them too! lol

(My older sister wouldnt wear it anyways)
Reply:The Bride, Groom, Bridesmaids, Groomsmen, Grandparents, Parents %26amp; Sibblings (if not in the wedding) should all wear flowers. It really does make them stand out and really feel special. Congrats!!
Reply:There is no 'should', it's your choice. The parents and grandparents of course, and usually the godparents. It's a nice idea to have siblings have flowers, but it depends upon your budget.
Reply:I think all the brothers and sister should have flowers. I personally love this custom.
Reply:No, the wedding party, moms and dads, and grandmom's. That's it.
Reply:Who is footing the floral budget? Let them decide?!?

Or remember it's your wedding and do what you want.

Tradition isn't something tat is kept too often these days anyway.
Reply:Yes, all immediate family should have flowers. This includes all parents, siblings, and grandparents.

Also good to note, the guy's family pays the florist bill!
Reply:It's really up to the bride and groom who they want to wear corsages and boutonnieres, but I personally like the idea of family wearing them.
Reply:I think it's up the the bride and groom on how they want to do it.
Reply:We're having wedding party, ushers, parents, siblings, and grandparents all have flowers. All of the men will have boutonnieres, though those in the wedding party will have a slightly different one from family. The mothers have small bouquets (they didn't like the idea of corsages), and all of the other female family members will have a single rose. It's not a lot, but it's a small gesture that distinguishes them from guests and makes them, especially the grandparents, feel special.

What flowers/plants to plant between now and the fall in Wisconsin?

We just moved and there is no type of landscaping in the yard. I would like to plant some flowers or flowering shrubs in the front and back. The front gets quite a bit of sun and the back is pretty shady. I am in Kenosha, which is southeastern Wisconsin, in the MidWest. I really like hydrangeas and dahlias, but don't know anything about planting, care, etc. Please any advice for an extreme novice on a budget. Thanks a lot!

What flowers/plants to plant between now and the fall in Wisconsin?
Fall and winter are great times to plant shrubs. It's also the time to plant bulbs for next spring.

Check out your local nurseries and garden centers. They can give you expert advice that you won't generally find at the big box stores on what grows well in your area of the Midwest. You'll also find lot's of end of season bargains.

Visit our website for more gardening ideas at-

http://www.gardening-at-the-crossroads.c...

Good Luck and Happy Gardening from Cathy and Neal!
Reply:Hi...I live in se wisconsin too....you can plant any of the perennials right now!!! in fact I just planted a bunch on sunday...lol they are really cheap right now. hydrangeas can be planted now you also might want to look into weigalia it is a shrub that flowers all summer long. below is the site for the nursery that I go to..(sure wish I would have saw this question this weekend....super big sale!) but their prices are still really good! and they will help you...all you have to do is ask...very nice people. and their plants and shrubs are extremely healthy and worth every penny.
Reply:Now is the time to plant your bulbs for a beautiful spring garden. You can plant tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, etc. for some nice early color next spring. When planting bulbs be sure to put a little bone meal in the hole with the bulb -- it's a great fertilizer.

If you want some color now you can go with mums and "icicle" pansies. The pansies are amazing and will go through the winter and into the spring.
Reply:Now is the perfect time to plant shrubs, trees and other perennials. They'll have a little time to get settled in before they go dormant for the winter and they'll be ready for spring the second it arrives. Find a local nursery and they'll work with you. Locally earned nurseries rely on repeat business and will do everything they can to make you happy.

Remember to plan ahead. If your planting a tree that will end up very large, don't plant shrubs nearby that need sun. Make sure to ask lots of questions about how big things will get and how much sun and water they will need.
Reply:in new jersey this time of the year we do a lot of mums.

they're already in bloom and they're cheap here. say 3 for $10.00

the other answers are great.

Looking for a FLOWER expert... The other day i saw an intresting bunch of flowers....?

They had 6 petals, were yellow, every other petal had a drop of red. each bloom was the size of a fifty cent peice (i believe) They were very close to the ground and either grow very close together or were planted that way... i cant remember the stemming or leafing =( im so sorry. I looked up an online flower encycolopedia and searched the entire thing and came up empty handed. Im fairly certain its a plaint you could get from a common green house, like walmart, but i just cant seem to find it. Also i saw the flowers in a 'landscape' type setting, not growing in the wild. If any one has any ideas PLEASE help. Thanks so much.

Wilting flowers!?

yeah, i brought roses for my mom 2 days ago, and when i brought it, half of them hadnt blossomed yet, and my mom likes blooming flowers, so i brought it. now, theyre wilting! its only been 2 days, why are half of them dead? i keep them in a vase half filled with water, and i change the water daily, so whats the problem! its so heartbreaking to see dying flowers! :(

Wilting flowers!?
Roses sometime suffer from this droop thing, because air bubbles in the stems. This might work, might not, depends how far gone.

Plunge roses in cold water. Take a hat pin and insert in stem behind bloom at about a 60 degree angle from the head (releases the trapped air, allowing water to the head. Clip the stems off at a 45 degree angle. Do that all underwater. Leave for 5 minutes.

Be aware some florists actually wire the rose buds in position when arranging.

Take roses out of water holding upside down. Place in new vase of cold water. As much of the stem as possible should be submerged, given the arrangement. Sometimes I place a few ice cubes in the vase, and then fill with cold water, and then place the roses in the vase.
Reply:When you got the flowers home did you cut the bottoms of the stems off? They are kinda like a Christmas Tree, you need to trim off just the bottom so the flower will continue to suck up water and continue to live.
Reply:dissolve an apirin in the water... that should help
Reply:Hey try putting half to full teaspoon of sugar in the water or you can purchase crystals to prolong the life of cut flowers.
Reply:Well may be some of them were bloomed. However keep changing the water everyday it might work

What flowers will grow and flower best in a tropical climate?

i am new in gardening and i want our place to be surrounded by colorful plants and flowers but i am just no so sure what will thrive in our country - tropical climate, avg temp here is 28-30 C, and we only have dry and wet seasons.

What flowers will grow and flower best in a tropical climate?
Here's a list of flowering plants that you may consider for your garden.

Heliconias, kalachuchi, bougainville, orchids, medinilla magnifica and mums. If you're in the Philippines, I can tell you to go to the Manila Seedlings to check out the wide variety available of each kind.
Reply:ask the local market what they would recommend. unless you are going to tell us where exactly you are.
Reply:cannas?
Reply:You don't mention exactly where you live...... that info would help *a lot*.

If you'll give that info, I can help.

Nicole
Reply:You are very fortunate you will be able to grow almost anything. Head to your nearest garden center - they have all kinds of suggestions. Get and book with lots of pictures and you can pick out your favorite.
Reply:Obviously tropical flowers e.g. hibiscus, boganvilleas etc. However conditions can be similated e.g. in hot houses. This way, you can grow flowers from other countries - roses, sun flowers etc, etc. Plants are generally quite hardy: however if you grow them in pots i.e. a smaller environment then you have to watch the conditions more e.g. if raining then not too much water. Other things to watch for are the amount of sun and shade e.g the sun goes from East to West. How is your house facing? Some plants like those with variegated leaves need lots of sun. Other indoor plants that thrive in the tropics as undergrowth in the forest cannot take sun even though they thrive in the tropical climate. This is a fun hobby. However you get out what you put in. To create artistic effects you need to know the size of various types of plants. You need to prune to "train" the plant and provide the shape. Is a spathiphyllum flower with a double petal unsual and can it be reproduced to have all double flowers?

All of the flowers on my spathiphyllum have single petals except one that has just opened and it has two distinct petals of equal size. Can this be cloned or duplicated to produce a plant that will always flower with double petals?

Is a spathiphyllum flower with a double petal unsual and can it be reproduced to have all double flowers?
You can clone spathiphyllum. It is the way that most commercial growers are making new spathiphyllums these days. They use a method called "tissue culture", also known as "microcuttings".

You put a small piece of the parent plant tissue on sterile nutrient jelly.

I don't know about spathiphyllums specifically but I know that for other plants you can use stuff like moistened potting soil and you pin the little pieces of leaf to it. And then you cover the whole thing in a mini greenhouse (like a plastic bowl or plastic wrap).

The sterile nutrient jelly probably produces winners by inhibiting competing growths and disease. Some people even disinfect the piece of plant before they put it on the rooting medium. And successful growers probably even tailor make their nutrients to reflect the needs of spathiphyllum in particular.

If you don't get some kind of sterile nutrient jelly, then you could make your own by using agar. Agar is used for jellies and ice cram so you might find some at a store that sells supplies for those things. There are lots of suppliers online.

Add enough agar to water to make it like jello. generally agar acts just like jello/gelatin and you can add it in the same proportions as those recipes.

Then add some miracle grow or other fertilizer so that your solution will have a content of 2-2-2 or so. That means approximately equal amounts of nitrogen and phosphorus and potassium.

You can put in it canning jars (about $8 at walMart) and use a pressure cooker on low to sterilize the whole shebang. Takes 15 on low. or you can cover each jar with a couple layers of aluminum foil and put in a regular covered pot with enough water to be level with the amount of nutrient solution in each jar. med to low boil for 15 minutes. Let cool on the counter, maybe overnight. Maintain as sterile conditions as you can when putting on the micro-cuttings. Putting them right into the jars would probably work. and then you could use the jars for mini greenhouses. Either way. make sure there is good contact between the plant tissue and the growing medium.

They might need airing occassionally. But some growths do not%26lt;%26lt; so i'm not sure about spathiphyllums.

maybe a breeder would give you a few pointers.

I didn't see anything that refered to double flowered spathiphyllums so you might have a unique situation going on there. Since the plant only produced one flower out of many like that then, well, I don't know what to tell you there. maybe just try to get the cuttings from the leaves that seem to be feeding that flower. And it might be possible to get roots to grow from the flower stalk it's self. You could try "air layering" too.

Air layering is wrapping a rooting medium around a stalk (like moistened sphagum moss) and then covering that medium with something to prevent the medium from drying (like plastic wrap).

here is a link to tissue culture:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plant_tissu...

Even if the resulting plants do not exhibit the double flowers, they would still make decent candidates for interbreeding. Spathiphyllums can produce seed. Breed one to another and perhaps, eventually, one of those babies or grandbabies or cousins would display the recessive trait that cause the double flower; if indeed it is a recessive trait and not an enviromental factor. And even if it is an environmental factor, you might have bred a plant that is susceptible to that particular environmental factor%26lt;%26lt;which is canna neat in and of it's self. I mention that environmental factor thing just because I have heard about other species of plants exhibiting mutative appearances due to those type of factors.

grow on!

Can i buy flowers in walmart and then use them as bouquets?

I live in nyc and there's really no walmart around here. but last week i was in pennsylvania and went to a walmart over there. my brother bought his girlfriend a beautiful bouquet of flowers of different color flowers for $10 dollars. It gave me an idea of buying about 3 of those bouquets to make my (bridal) bouquet and then buy 5 for the bridesmaids. Would that work.

I mean these flowers were beautiful I would just have to cut the stem.

Can i buy flowers in walmart and then use them as bouquets?
If they look good and the price is right.....go for it! Look on their website, I'm sure you don't have to drive all the way to Penn. for a Walmart. They are like Starbucks, everywhere.

Just keep in mind that sometimes the selection at Walmart changes so you might not be able to find 8 bouquets that are the same. If you plan on doing it make sure to talk with the manager of the flower department so they can have them on standby.
Reply:Well, heres another idea.. now this might sound kinda cheese ball, but I've known of a lot of people to do this.... Artificial Flowers... seriously!! They wont wilt, they will always look great, you don't have to worry about allergies, or them staining anything (clothing, table cloths, etc.)... and when it comes time for you to throw your bouquet, thats when you could use that $10 flower bunch from walmart....

Good luck!
Reply:Wal-Mart can have beautiful flowers, yes. The key is to SPECIAL ORDER exactly what you want. Believe me, showing up before hand and hoping the flowers you want are there will never work. If they don't offer payment ahead of time, you should order extra flowers so that when you pick them up you can choose the best looking bunch. It saves money, as long as you have the time and patience, why not!? :)

Also, have you ever done this before? I would recommend buying a few bunches before hand(you can even get the ones that are dying and on sale for cheap practice). Will you be wrapping the stems in a ribbon? Sometimes these aren't as easy as they seem...
Reply:Yes -- absolutely. If it looks good, go for it!

But I will say that the smell of fresh flowers is very calming on your wedding day. I took 2 grocery store bouquets (the ones by the cash register) and hand-tied them just like the fancy florists do. Smelled amazing, looked great, cost $20 and lasted for 3 weeks on my kitchen table.
Reply:Yep. Any would really do as long as they are good flowers.
Reply:Do you have a Sam's Club or Costco? They have great flowers, too, and I think they will even do arrangements for you, so you don't have to do it yourself.

If you want to do it, make sure you or someone you know has an idea of how to arrange them or tie them, so they don't fall apart. You can take a class or buy a book at a craft store.
Reply:Hobby Lobby would be better - http://www.craftsetc.com/store/search.as...
Reply:yeah I am buying mine at costco. Just make sure they are refrigerated! and buy them no more than 2 days before the wedding!
Reply:I know a couple of girls got their flowers through Costco or Sam's Club. Here where I live, we have a floral shop that specializes in wholesale orders for DIY brides. They offer classes on making bouquets, bouts, %26amp; corsages.

My sister ordered all of the roses for her wedding online (2GRoses) %26amp; had them delivered the Thursday before her wedding. We just used them for centerpieces, but put them all together on Friday before the rehearsal.

DIY flowers are a great way to save money, especially if you just want roses and you like the hand tied look. There are some great videos out on the internet with good instructions of how to create bouquets and other wedding accessories.
Reply:Hi and congratulations!

Yes, that would work fine! I am always suggesting for bride's to go to Walmart (or Costco). I buy roses from Walmart all the time, and yes, they are only $10 for a dozen.

As a matter of fact, you can put in a special order for a certain color and quantity. It would certainly work for a nice bouquet. Cut off the thorns, cut down the stems, and wrap with a silk ribbon. Beautiful!

If you don't have a Walmart near you, check online. I don't know if you can special order online or not, but possibly.

Good luck and I hope they work out for you.
Reply:Hi,

You definetly could use the flowers from Wal-Mart if you wanted to design your own bouquets. There really isn't any rules against it. There are several different tutorials about how to design your own bouquets just "google" it for directions

Good Luck

Reply:Nothing wrong with that! We are ordering ours from Sams Club...125 roses for $87! At the moment they are higher for Valentine's Day but after Valentine's Day they will go back down.

Congrats!
Reply:I was going to do this when we married in Las Vegas, but I would have had to rent a car and travel to pick up the flowers, and I didn´t want the hassle.

Instead, I brought the dozen fake ivory english roses I had in my home (I bought them at Pottery Barn 6 years ago) to Las Vegas, and the morning of my wedding a friend tied them for me to carry, and each of my bridesmaids carried a single rose. Needless to say, I saved A LOT of money doing this.
Reply:That would so be okay!!! What a great money saver. If you can cut and tie them with a cute ribbon from wal-mart, too, you're set!
Reply:Wal-Mart isn't the only place...there are several grocery stores that have flower departments. They even do arrangements for you! I did mine through a grocery store called Kroger...not sure if they have them in NY...and I paid about $150 for my bouquet, two bridesmaids, and the guys flowers too...much cheaper than a floral shop!!! That was in TN so I'm sure yours will still be more than mine, but I don't see anything wrong with getting flowers from somewhere like that! No one else is going to know...and you can even add your own ribbon!

What kinda flowers should i bring?

one of my dearest friend has passed away. She was only 24 year-young. i am gonna visit her grave tomorrow. i dont know what to bring, so i'll just simply bring some flowers. since i have never visited someone's grave before, what kinda flowers are the most appropriate? rose? lily? or etc? and what color should the flowers be? thanks.

What kinda flowers should i bring?
You're not looking for a traditional funeral arrangement...you just want some fresh flowers to leave on the grave. The size, type, quantity, color, dollars spent, etc., on the flowers really doesn't make any difference...it's what you like or what she may have liked...and that it comes from your heart. Ask the clerk if they have any recommendations...or what's in season. They'll ask what your budget is...and help you select a nice fresh bouquet/arrangement. Even a single rose/flower left is a beautiful sentiment. Keep it simple...it's really just the thought that counts.
Reply:when you get to the florist tell them what the flowers are for and how much you want to spend an they can make some suggestions.

Reply:What kind of flowers did she like? That would be the best, but really any flowers would be nice
Reply:Might I suggest that instead of leaving flowers at her grave why not stop by her family's home. You can express your sympathy and leave the flowers for them to enjoy.

How does that sound?
Reply:Lilly is a good choice, what kind of flowers did your friend like? That would be a good choice too.Sorry to here about your friend

Cheap wedding flowers?

We'd like to keep things as affordable as possible as far as flowers go. We're having an outdoor wedding and reception, so we were thinking of even just going with some wild flowers. All this will take place in Nova Scotia.

With this info in mind, can you think of flowers that would be pretty affordable and accesable??

Thank so much!!

Cheap wedding flowers?
Gerbera daisies are very affordable and come in lots of different colors. They are also a fairly big flower, so it doesn't take many of them to make a bouquet, etc.

Here are a few pictures...I personally think they are a beautiful flower. Hope this helps. Good luck :)

Reply:Go with flowers that are in season.
Reply:Pick flowers that are in season like another person already said. Also, don't go all one flower for everything. Haveing a bouquet and centerpieces that are just one flower can be very expensive since more will have to be used since there won't be any "filler flowers."

Think about loosely arranged bouquets and centerpieces. Anything that doesn't require a lot of work on a florists part is much cheaper. You can also DYI! The flower wholesaler route is a great way to go.

Even cheaper, forget about floral centerpieces! Try something else like fresh fruit, beta fish, feather centerpiece, candles, depending on what your theme is going to be there are so many options!

Flowers for a babies funeral?

my cousin just had a still born really hard tym she is only 18 so its hard to deal wit arrangin a funeral

ive told her ill help out n get the flowers for the funeral n get afew single loose roses or sumthin too just wanted to kno wat flowers r best for a babies funeral if u could tell me that would be great

Flowers for a babies funeral?
White flowers are the sign of purity. And, a newborn is the epitomy of that. Otherwise, ask the mother what flowers she would have in mind for her baby. This is so heartbreaking - and you are a wonderful support in your cousin's life. What a wonderful thing you are doing! Have a healthy and happy leap year!
Reply:when my son pased the flower shop did it for me. call them
Reply:The most extreme situation I have ever been acquainted with is when I was running a non profit organization that fed the poor and more.

A man and his son came in and wanted to donate to our Christmas give away but first they wanted me to know about the circumstances. I will try to relay what they told me.

The younger man had a daughter. She died very young. They asked that no one bring flowers but send toys to the funeral. After the services the father and grandfather came directly to me with a truckload of stuffed stuff from the proceedings. I was in tears because, it was amazing that they would even have the mental capacity to think like this in the middle of their grieving. With their story, I was whole heartily dedicated to getting these donations to kids that really needed help to find the meaning of Christmas. I told some of the parents about the hows and where fores so that they could give the presents their due respect..

This donation effected me and many others in ways that could not be priced. Encouraging others through this story is only the tip of the benefits..

life can be short. Let's make the most of it.
Reply:Sorry for the loss. I only know that carnations are considered a funeral flower. Hope that helped a little bit.
Reply:it depends on how much money you have. All flowers are appropriate except for red roses. If you have a wholesale floral market near you, just go in and check out the prices. If you don't, go into a florist and ask what kind of a deal they can give you and for what.

It isn't summer, so cost is going to be high. Daffodils are coming in, and they're a sign of spring and rebirth. If she has a church service, it would be a nice flower. Lilies too, but armloads of lilies are going to put a crimp in your budget.

you don't want to add to the stress by overdoing on the flowers and putting yourself in debt.

I agree with the other person, a grave blanket (of flowers) is nice.
Reply:Baby's Breath, Lilies of the Valley, White Roses and white Carnation's would all be appropriate. Your local florist would be able to make suggestions, too.

Such a sad time for all of you, I hope you are very understanding of her emotional mood swings and keep a close watch on her during this difficult time.
Reply:ask your cousin what she would like. the funeral director could also handle everything for you. or you could ask him/her what is appropriate. a nice blanket of flowers that covers the casket would be very nice.
Reply:I would go to a floweriest and ask them what they normal sell to funerals. Explain the situation and go with what they say. I think it will make it easier for the family if they don't have to worry about another thing for the funeral. I am sorry about your lose.

Question concerning flowers? Please help!?

I am doing a plant report and I would like a good site that has a lot of information about flowers. I have a flower already picked out-Mini Rose Vined- and I would just like the site so I can get a lot of good information for my flower. Thanks!

Question concerning flowers? Please help!?
go to the extension service site and click on agriculture and also go to dmoz.org and search botany.

The dmoz site has all kinds of links that can help you with indepth plant searchs.

Also go to Botanical Garden sites. The best on is New York Botanical Gardens i listed in.

Many times I get specific with the plant species name and end up on informative databases.

Flowers on Wedding Cake??

If you are using flowers for your wedding cake, do these flowers have to be ordered from your florists you are using for your wedding or do the baker have them there for price included in the total amount of your cake?

Thank you!

Flowers on Wedding Cake??
It would be best to get them from the florist, so they are uniform with the rest of the decor. Unless you want gum paste flowers, or something edible like that, your baker won't have much to do with the floral accessories.

hope this helps. good luck!
Reply:wow...i would ask the baker. my guess would be from the florist so everything matches?
Reply:For anything but the most common, popular flowers I suggest going through the florist. Ask your baker:

"If I want to use fresh flowers on my cake, will you coordinate with my florist, or will I have to manage getting the flowers to you?"

My baker is coordinating with the florist, thank goodness.
Reply:My florist provided ours. That was the way the baker preferred it. I'm sure it varies from baker to baker.
Reply:Mine are coming from the florist.

Why would you want a Baker to do FLOWERS?!
Reply:I got mine from the florist. They can deliver them to the bakery or you may have to get a bridesmaid or groomsman to run them over there
Reply:Usually the baker and the florist contact one another to see what is necessary. The flowers should be included in the florist's price. When you meet with you florist talk to them about it and try to have the contact info for you cake maker available to them.

Good luck!
Reply:My florist included it and said he would decorate the cake himself. When I went to the bakery to order it, I asked what she normally does and she said that sometimes she does it and sometimes she contracts a florist to do it for her. Her prices were really high, so I just went with my florist. Plus, I liked him better ha ha!
Reply:i got my flowers on my wedding cake at a grocery store! they were pink with a white bottom. they was roses! soo pretty!! alot cheaper too!
Reply:Usually, it's the florist who provides the flowers for cakes. However, when you order them, make sure they know it's for the cake. If possible, get organic flowers. If not, ask how the flowers are grown. You don't want any nasty chemicals on the cake that you're going to be serving.

Good luck, and Congratulations
Reply:Usually either will do the flowers, that being said it's usually much cheaper to go through your florist and as mentioned that way you can be sure they will match your colors! : )

My cake has fresh flowers and the baker quoted a much higher price...probably because they prefer to have your florist do it. If your florist does the flowers the bakery doesn't have to send someone to decorate the cake to your wedding...just deliver it
Reply:Usually it would be the baker that provides them. Although you could have the coordinate to make sure the colors are the same.
Reply:either your florist or baker can do it. to be sure everything matches and is of the same quality, your best bet is to have your florist do it. your baker will probably prefer it that way, too-- it's less work for them and your florist can get a better price anyway.
Reply:When I discussed my cake with Rose (our baker) she asked that we have the flowers brought to her. However, we decided no flowers, sugared grapes instead.
Reply:no they don,t put them how u want to put them
Reply:I had flowers ordered from the florist. I had lilies on my cake and the woman who did my cake put them on when she got here. Normally what you do is get them from the florist so they match the flowers in your bouquet or arrangements. Depending on the flowers they may need to be prepared, but my flowers were basicly just put on the cake as is. You can also order flowers made from sugar that are painted by your baker or from a company the baker uses. These are generally more expensive, but usually look just as nice. So it's really your call.

Price ranges/types of flowers for wedding in Oct?

We are getting married the end of Oct this year. I'm ready to pick out the flowers for the wedding and I'm trying to figure out the cost. I know it depends on what flowers you pick, and what is in season. I can't find a good list of what flowers are in season in Oct. Also, I just want a general list of what flowers are in the low, middle, and high price range. I don't need to go super cheap, but I don't have unlimited funds either. Any advice?

Price ranges/types of flowers for wedding in Oct?
http://www.flowershopnetwork.com/pages/n...
Reply:My advice is to discuss this with a florist or two.

I am also getting married in October and had no idea about what flowers would be best, what was in season, price etc.

What I did know was my budget, my colour scheme for the wedding and the kind of look I was going for. I went to a couple of florists to discuss ideas with them and they were so helpful. The one I went with talked me through my options giving me ideas and then telling me what I could change if I wanted to make it cheaper but still look good etc. She said to bring in a pic of my dress and the bridesmaids dresses when I have them so she can make sure the bouquets suit the colour and style - they have to be helpful or people wouldn't go back and use them.

They really know what they are talking about and the good thing is that you can talk to them without pressure to use them - just say you have a few places to enquire about, that way you can even get their advice if you are doing the flowers yourself.
Reply:pick your color scheme and go silk flowers...that way you keep them forever and can start with a few pieces a month until you are done.
Reply:Calla lilies are very popular, and you can get the fall colors- the reds and oranges. Maybe mums, sweetheart roses, orchids, tiger lilies, hydrangeas.... talk to your local florists for their suggestions.
Reply:Personally, I think Gerbera daisies are perfect. They are always in season, inexpensive and trendy, not to mention available in practically all colors.
